Out of necessity, much of Hertzog’s work over the years was commercial, even after he assumed direction of the college print shop in 1948. Due to the ephemeral nature of commercial prints, we may never be able to collect and catalog Hertzog’s entire output. There are, however, diamonds to be found in the gravel: a 1938 exhibit brochure of Tom Lea’s preliminary sketches for a mural in the federal courthouse at El Paso; and 1940s and 1950s letterheads for the Jefferson Historical Museum, the Kelsey and Leary Clinic, José Cisneros, and himself, among others.
