Note from the Director, Steven Escar Smith
"The Al Lowman Printing Arts Collection and Archives is the cultural equivalent of a Texas natural resource. Anchored by an extensive collection of books, ephemera, correspondence, manuscripts, and archival material from the El Paso printer and book designer Carl Hertzog, the Lowman collection documents fine printing, book design, bibliography and the history of books and printing in Texas and the Southwest as well as nationally and internationally. Though this catalog shows only a small portion of the collection, we hope through our selection and presentation of some of the highlights to give the reader a sense of the library’s breadth and depth.
